About Balloon Safari in Tanzania
Where Can You Enjoy a Balloon Safari in Tanzania?
Balloon safaris are available in some of Tanzania’s most famous national parks, including:
Serengeti National Park – The most popular destination for balloon safaris, offering stunning views of the vast plains and abundant wildlife, including the Great Migration of wildebeests and zebras.
Tarangire National Park – Known for its majestic baobab trees, large herds of elephants, and diverse wildlife.
Ruaha National Park – A more remote and less crowded experience, providing an opportunity to see predators like lions and leopards.
Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park) – One of the largest protected areas in Africa, offering views of wetlands, rivers, and diverse wildlife.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Though balloon safaris are rare here due to the crater’s steep walls, some flights may be available around its outer areas.
What to Expect on a Balloon Safari
A balloon safari usually begins early in the morning, just before sunrise. Here’s what the experience typically includes:
Pre-Dawn Pick-Up: Guests are collected from their lodges or camps and driven to the launch site.
Safety Briefing & Inflation: Upon arrival, guests receive safety instructions while watching the balloon being inflated and prepared for flight.
Take-Off & Flight: As the sun rises, the balloon lifts off, floating silently above the savannah. The flight lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, providing 360-degree views of the landscapes and wildlife below.
Wildlife Spotting: Depending on the park, you may see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, and even cheetahs from above.
Smooth Landing & Celebration: After landing, guests are welcomed with a champagne toast, a traditional celebration for ballooning.
Bush Breakfast: The experience ends with a lavish breakfast served in the wilderness, offering a mix of local and international delicacies.
Why Choose a Balloon Safari?
Unparalleled Views: Aerial views provide a different perspective on the landscape, wildlife, and migration patterns.
Tranquil & Peaceful: Unlike a game drive, a balloon safari is silent and non-intrusive, allowing for intimate wildlife encounters.
Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience: The combination of flying at sunrise, seeing animals in their natural habitat, and enjoying a gourmet breakfast makes it an unforgettable adventure.
Best Time for a Balloon Safari
The best time depends on the location:
Serengeti: June to October (dry season) for excellent visibility and wildlife spotting. January to March is great for seeing the calving season.
Tarangire & Other Parks: The dry season (June to October) is best for wildlife concentration around water sources.
Who Can Join a Balloon Safari?
Suitable for adults and children (usually above 7 years old).
Not recommended for pregnant women or those with certain medical conditions due to the bumpy landing.
Cost & Booking
Balloon safaris are a luxury experience, typically costing between $500 to $600 per person. Prices include transportation, the balloon ride, champagne, and breakfast. Due to high demand, it’s recommended to book in advance.

From the very beginning, Rebeca and Emanuel welcomed me like part of their family I really felt safe and comfortable! Emanuel was honest and clear about what to expect during the safari, which I really appreciated. Communication was open and straightforward, making everything easy and clear. During the safari, I saw all of the Big Five and many other incredible animals, surrounded by stunning landscapes. I joined a group safari and spent the days with a lovely group of people. As a solo traveler, it was a great way to meet others. The guide was fantastic, always listening to our interests and making sure we saw as much as possible. He worked hard to give everyone the best experience. In short, it was an unforgettable adventure. I highly recommend Borbo Safaris to anyone who wants a genuine, caring, and amazing safari experience.Posted on Emanuel JulianTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
